This Nerf gun had many firsts in the realm of homemade Nerf guns, but it still doesn't get any recognition. The design came from a desire to make a dead simple semi-automatic Nerf gun. This was back in 2004 before semi-automatic Nerf guns were even being considered. Was it semi-automatic? Yes. Was it useful? Not particularly because the shells were annoying and the cycle wasn't always reliable, especially when running. But it was a first.
The gun was also the first (and still the only as far as I know) homemade Nerf gun to use latex tubing as a pressure source. This I find odd because it's coming up on 5 years since this gun and no one's even bothered to try it out. No one's even bothered to use it in modifications or repairs as far as I know.
The gun basically links the ball valve to the magazine advancement mechanism. The gun works by closing on a shell when the valve opens and dragging it to the area where it's dropped out when the valve closes. Simple gravity usually would drop the shell, though this wasn't always reliable and could be very annoying even when it was reliable. I had planned to add some ejector, but I realized I had no good idea how to accomplish that so the gun was left in the state shown.
I have no intention to try anything like this again. The parts used for this have been scrapped if I remember correctly. This was an interesting experiment and nothing more.

Perhaps I should have mentioned this gun was made of leftover parts and things I found lying around the house. That valve was available. I don't remember buying it so it probably came off something important. My parent's dollar's at work.

What are you doing threading a faucet supply valve compression fitting into a piece of heater hose trettel? (Pic 6)
